Czochralski was one of the most outstanding Polish scientists. He is mentioned in line with Maria Skłodowska-Curie and Nicolaus Copernicus. An eminent chemist, metallurgist and crystallographer, he was the creator of the method for growing metal single crystals. He is known as “the father of electronics”.
On the sixtieth anniversary of his death the Polish Sejm passed a resolution announcing 2013 as the Jan Czochralski Year in his honour.
