The text of the Directive 2013/55/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 November 2013 amending Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications and Regulation (EU) No 1024/2012 on administrative cooperation through the Internal Market Information System (‘the IMI Regulation’) was published on 28 December2013. in the Official Journal of the European Union (L 354, p. 132).
The new directive introduces solutions facilitating recognition of professional qualifications between Member States, as well as provides a basis for the review of barriers of access to professions in Member States. The provisions of the act also remove unequal treatment in recognition of qualifications of Polish nurses and midwives – graduates of secondary and post-secondary medical schools.
The directive enters into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication. However, its provisions do not have to be immediately applied by the Member States. Each Member State has 2 years to transpose the directive, i.e. to introduce the new rules into their national law (till 18 January 2016).
